“We operate a very remote state park and have a vast area to take care of involving hiking, boating and UTVs. This training and equipment will help us do our jobs and save lives.”

— Andrew Collett

Making great care possible is just the beginning!

HonorHealth Foundation 2025 Military Partnership Impact Report - trainingEvery day, military medics and first responders put their lives on the line to protect and care for others in the most high-stakes, high-pressure situations imaginable.

Their ability to respond with speed, precision and confidence can mean the difference between life and death. That’s why realistic training and simulation exercises are critical, providing them with hands-on experience in environments that mirror the chaos and intensity of real-world emergencies.

These cutting-edge simulations ensure they are prepared for anything, from battlefield trauma to mass casualty incidents, empowering them to serve with unparalleled skill, resilience and bravery.

And it all starts here at home. HonorHealth is the only community-based hospital in the country to provide this level of medical training to military nurses and medics as well as local first responders. And thanks to the generosity of donors like you, this life-saving training allows these heroes to maintain their certifications and stay on top of evolving treatment protocols — all provided at no charge as a service to our community and our country.

Participants learn in a realistic, yet threat-free environment, and work with highly experienced physicians and former military members. They use advanced patient simulators with life-like functions, including heart beats, breathing and the ability to talk, respond to treatments and even “bleed” from mock injuries.

The first responders trained through the program last year represented law enforcement (from the local to federal level), corrections officers, EMS and fire departments from all over Arizona. We even had several participants from other states, including Colorado and Indiana.

Your gifts provided new bleeding control equipment for the Military Partnership. Last year, we were able to donate 21 gently used kits to departments that participated in our training and provided Stop the Bleed classes in their communities to train members of the public to render care in a crisis.

Seligman, Douglas, Winslow, Show Low, Salt River and Flagstaff are just a few of the thankful communities that benefitted from these donations.

In November 2024, the Military Partnership supported the Arizona Trauma Association’s Southwest Trauma and Acute Care Symposium (STACS), a conference providing continuing education opportunities for trauma professionals, both prehospital and in hospital, from all over the state.

Through your gift, you have saved lives in cities across Arizona and on foreign battlefields. Thank you!

Your philanthropy in action

HonorHealth Foundation 2025 Military Partnership Impact Report - Rex PorterAfter experiencing a Military Partnership simulation exercise, Rex Porter reflected on his past experience in the Air Force where he wore a Kevlar vest and helmet all day, every day in the wake of 9-11.

He told Military Partnership Director, Roxanne Flynn, that he thought wearing this equipment might add more realism for the medics as they worked on patients with the extra bulk on their bodies.

Roxanne added it the Military Partnership wish list and Rex and Margie Porter generously made a gift to buy all that was needed.

Today, our participants wear this equipment during mass casualty training events, adding a whole new dimension to the experience.
